Grief

Grief is heavy. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the loss of health, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship–it is difficult (if not impossible) to prepare for those moments when life hits hard. This type of pain can feel intolerable and unbearable. Even one event of grief creates a cascade of additional losses where we are left with a big hole that never used to be there. This can be all the more heightened when you’re not used to being in such a vulnerable position where you’re needing support. Reaching out is brave, and you are worthy of having someone to hold this space for you as you try to hold the weight of what you have lost. Grief counseling can be a great way to process, learn new coping skills, and encourage you all in a time that is dedicated to you with a trained professional; so you don’t have to try and carry the weight of it all on your own. There is hope here.

Trauma

Wherever there is trauma, there is grief and loss. When the past is in the present life can deplete us. Whether you or a loved one recently experienced a traumatic experience or it happened years ago, counseling can help. Not only have I studied the field of trauma for the last ten years, I have lived through and processed a number of traumatic experiences myself. I know how challenging this journey can be, while at the same time how transformative and life changing it can be to find relief.

I received training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) from the EMDR Institute, and my ongoing training with this modality is underway. EMDR is considered an evidence based practice for the treatment of trauma. It involves the use of eye movements, tones, or taps (bilateral stimulation) to help process distressing memories so they can be better resolved. This approach to treating trauma allows for us to treat both the body and the mind, whereas many other treatments may leave out one or the other. EMDR can also be helpful for current and future circumstances. I tend to integrate a number of theories into the treatment of trauma as it can affect so many areas of one’s life, and I have found this to be the best approach. Please see these listed under theories used.

Stress and Anxiety

We live in stressful times and unfortunately stress is an inevitable reality in life. But what happens when it starts to consume us and feels out of control? Whether it be related to work, relationships, transitions, or living in the modern world, I am confident in my skills to provide you with extra tools and ways of navigating stress and anxiety where you can experience a greater degree of peace. My approach tends to be integrative and collaborative, but it really depends on your specific stressors. If you have any other questions, I encourage you to reach out through my contact page and inquire about becoming a new client!
